Frequently Asked Questions

Here you can find answers to the most commonly asked questions that we receive.

Woodstock Improvement District (WID) provides top-up cleaning and security services for businesses across Woodstock. Businesses in the area covered by WID pay an additional levy in their rates each month. This allows local businesses to call WID if they need support from their security team or if an area needs additional cleaning.

WID is not paid for by residents and as such cannot attend to calls made by residents asking for help. If a resident has a security issue, they should contact SAPS, their armed response provider, raise a concern via the UWatch WhatsApp group or call Law Enforcement depending on the nature of the complaint.

There are an estimated 14 000 homeless people in the greater Cape Town area, compared to 3 500 shelter beds. Until the Provincial Social Development department is able to better manage and rehabilitate people living on the streets, the reality is we will continue to see structures appearing within our area. This sadly often attracts drug usage and unsanitary conditions. If you see a new structure appear, you must call Law Enforcement immediately on 021 480 7700.

Absolutely not, and there never will be. U-Watch is a voluntary organisation where members, who live in our community give up their time to help keep our area safe. We are not paid for this and do not benefit financially in any way. As such, we welcome all residents to join our community WhatsApp groups to help be our eyes and ears. Simply fill out the application form here.

Yes. U-watch are volunteers with their own jobs and responsibilities. If you need an urgent response to a security incident then you need an armed response contract. We recommend using Byers as they are great value for money, offer month to month contracts and have a large coverage across Woodstock. You can contact Garry from Byers on 061 564 1769.
