It’s time to plant some trees

  • by

In late January, we have seen summer temperatures over 40 degrees in Woodstock. This is uncomfortable for residents and can lead to higher energy bills as those lucky few with air conditioning crank up their units.

This in turn puts pressure on an already weak electricity supply.

Streets with a thick tree coverage are noticeably cooler. Take a walk down Chamberlain on a hot day. The pavements are cool to the touch and the air trapped between the trees and houses helps keeps homes cool.

Trees also remove air pollutants and absorb loud noise, helping to keep our community peaceful and more comfortable for those with asthma.

Residents have reported that getting trees planted on their street is a confusing process. We want to change this and are partnering with members of the Woodstock Residents Association and Woodstock Improvement District to promote tree planting throughout our sector.

Keep an eye out for communications in coming weeks as our Greening Ambassadors start engaging with residents to keep Woodstock cool and green.
